DISCLAIMER: THIS FILM IS RATED R FOR LANGUAGE AND STRONG SEXUALITY

Sisterhood through thick & thin, dealing with life's twists and turns, the shortage of men and the baggage they leave behind, and learning to be happy. These are the central themes in one of the greatest films of the 90s, with one of the greatest voices in music. For the month of July, we are paying homage to The Voice and showcasing the 1995 film, based on the best-selling novel by Terry McMillan, WAITING TO EXHALE, starring legends WHITNEY HOUSTON, ANGELA BASSETT, LELA ROCHON, and LORETTA DEVINE!

It's New Year's Eve in the state of Arizona, 4 friends have been learning to navigate life. Bernadine (played by Bassett) has just received the life altering news that her husband of 11 years (played by Michael Beach) has been cheating on her with a white woman, and wants to leave her, while taking most of the assets to his company SHE help create and leave crumbs for her and their 2 children. Savannah (played by Houston) has been unlucky in love, but successful in her friendships and her job. Yet her well-meaning mother feels that her daughter isn't completely successful without a man to share life with, and has been trying to set her up with a former squeeze...who happens to be MARRIED with a KID(played by Dennis Haysbert)!!

Robin (played by Rochon) has also been unlucky in love. She dreams of having a family, children, and the one great love, but she keeps looking in the wrong places. But there's one guy she keeps coming back to, hoping that he will leave his wife for her (played by Leon). And Gloria (played by Devine) is trying to navigate the life as a single mother to a teenager who is more or less a handful, while simultaneously finding out his father is gay and wants nothing to do with them. She finds companionship in her new neighbor (played by Gregory Hines) and begins to learn how to let her son go and discover life on his own.

Through bitter divorces, men who are too scared to make a commitment, and the little joys that a found family brings, this film shows the importance of sisterhood, and you can always count on each other.

So join us on JULY 19th as we discuss the film, and shine a light & pay homage to one of its stars WHITNEY HOUSTON, and her status as a queer icon.

Get ready for some stellar music, acting, and possibly sing a song or two, because we are all waiting to exhale...shoop-shoop-shoop, shoop-be-doo🎶
